Cllr Darren Byford

Darren is a Cabinet Member for Wakefield Council, one of the key decision makers for the local authority. His portfolio of responsibility covers Regeneration, Economic Growth and Property for the whole district. Darren brings with him an extensive wealth of knowledge and expertise, supporting the work of the BID and Wakefield Council to come together and strengthening its impact. This approach continues to bring strong benefits to the BID, businesses, residents of the city centre and the Council.

Cllr Byford’s background is in procurement, sales, and retail. Having started his career as a trainee retail manager for two national supermarket chains, he moved into procurement, becoming the head of sales for one of the UK’s largest public sector buying organisations.

Darren was first elected to Wakefield Council in 2016 and successfully represents Horbury & South Ossett. Working very closely with local businesses, he has helped support both areas to have unique and thriving town centres.
